| Dominion President Gordon Moore presents an Award to Thaomi Chau. 3rd Place Provincial Level, Fred Gies Branch 50 Entry from Williamsburg Public School Black & White Poster Junior Grades 4,5,6 |

Chairman Jim Meyer and Vice-Chairman Stan Howie presented $10,000 to Susan Dusick of St. Mary's General Hospital towards their Arrhythmia programme. Kim Wilhelm of the Grand River Hospital Foundation accepted $10,000 toward ventilators at K-W, and $5,000 towards mattresses at Freeport. Sue Hardy, of St. Joseph's Foundation, accepted $10,000 for two patient lifts at Parkwood Hospital.
Also announced were disbursments of $2,000 each to four local Cadet Squadrons, and $5,000 each to Ontario Command Poppy Fund, Legion/L.A. Bursary Programme, and Ontario Command Homeless Veterans Programme.
These donations, combined with prevous smaller donations to the two local hospitals earlier in the fiscal year, bring the 2013 campaign "major donations" to $70,000. We sincerely thank the good people of Kitchener-Waterloo for making this possible.
Then on to the student awards - 112 winning entries at Branch Level, from 23 schools, all masterfully announced by KWPF Secretary Mary Anne Jantzi, and presented by Cathy McIntyre and her team of judges from the three Branches
Zone C-2 Commander Bob Berg, Deputy Commander Sandy Pember, and Zone C-2 Youth Education chairman Rheta Campbell presented Zone (12 branches) Level awards.
District C Commander Derek Moore, District C Poppy Chairman Robert Grey, and District C Youth Education Chairman John Lowe were on hand to present the District (50 Branches) Level awards.
We had no Dominion Level winners this year, but were honoured when Dominion President Gordon Moore attended to present a Provincial (400+ Branches) Level Award.
The goal of the annual contest is to ensure that today's youth have a fundamental understanding of what people were called upon to do to defend the freedoms we enjoy today. Judging by the number and quality of entries, we have achieved our goal once again this year.
Special Thanks to Branch 412 President Stan Howie for the use of the hall, and to the Branch 412 Ladies Auxiliary for the wonderful lunch afterward.
