The goal of the contest was to ensure that today's Youth have a basic understanding of what people were called upon to do, to defend the freedom and democracy that we as Canadians, enjoy today.
Hopefully, that goal was accomplished. Twenty-seven schools were represented, with a whopping total of 578 entries. 130 awards at Branch level were handed out.
Zone C-2 Commander Lynda Hagedorn, with Zone Youth-Ed Chair Rheta Campbell awarded the prizes to the Zone level winners.
District C Commander Stew Taylor, his Deputy Derek Moore, and District C Youth-Ed chair John Lowe were on hand to present the District Level awards.
Dominion 1st Vice-President Gord Moore was in attendance, and presented three Provincial level awards. Comrade Moore also made a very special announcement; Owen Brown, a student at Kononia Christian Academy, sponsored by Br 530 Waterloo, has won the 1st place at Dominion Level for his black & white Poster, featured with this story. The official presentation will be in Ottawa on November 10th, 2012. Great job Owen!
Additionally, Chairman Jim Meyer and Vice-Chair Stan Howie presented the major community donations to our three local hospitals, and Parkwood Veterans' Hospital, totalling $97,495.00.
The K-W Poppy Fund is only able to present these donations thanks to the good citizens of K-W, who are always very generous with their donations to Poppy Boxes, and the envelopes mailed to many homes during Remembrance Week.
