Another good crowd at RCL Branch 412 for the annual Poster & Literary contest. Twenty schools were represented, with 120 winning entries at Branch level.
The intent of the annual contest is to ensure the youth of today are aware of, and will always remember, the sacrifices of yesterday. Judging from the number and quality of entries, we have acheived this goal.
K-W Poppy Fund Chairman Jim Meyer, with Vice-Chairman Stan Howie, presented a cheque for $30,092.00 to Sue Hardy from Parkwood Veterans' Hospital to purchase needed air mattresses, and dental equipment. Major donations were also announced to four local Cadet squadrons, as well as the Ontario Legion Homeless Vets' Programme, Bursary Programme, , Veterans Transition Programme, and the Afghanistan Repatriation Memorial.
Zone Commander Lynda Hagedorn, and Zone Youth Ed Chair Rheta Campbell presented the Zone Level Awards. District Commander Stewart Taylor, and Deputy Disrict Commander Derek Moore were on hand to present the District Level awards. We were once again honoured to have Dominon President Gord Moore present to give out the Provincial Level honours.
Dominion President Moore made the announcement we were all waiting to hear - Owen Brown of Koinonia Christian Academy, once again had his poster win at the Dominion level. Congratulations Owen, and to all of the talented students who entered the contest this year.
Our sincere appreciation to the good people of Kitchener and Waterloo for their support of the K-W Poppy Fund.
There are some photos of the event in the gallery.
