Big Crowd at Awards/Major Donations night Mar 31

At the annual Poster & Literary awards night, March 31st at Royal Canadian Legion Branch 412, a standing room only crowd was on hand to receive their awards and support the winners.

Eighteen schools participated this year, and there were a total of 310 entries. One hundred and two Branch level winners were awarded their certificate and a cheque for their efforts. Several students had their work go on to be successful at Zone, then District levels, and Provincial level.

Thanks to all of the students who submitted entries, and of course to the teachers who promoted the contest within their school.

Also at this event, the 2016 Major Community donations were presented -

  • Susan Dusick, VP St.Mary's General Hospital Foundation, accepted $20,000 towards the Heart Rhythm project
  • Tracey Bailey, President and CEO, Grand River Hospital Foundation, was given $19,500 for 13 wheelchairs at K-W, and $10,500 towards 7 wheelchairs for Freeport
  • Sue Hardy, manager, Volunteer/Donor Relations, St. Joseph's Health Care Foundation, was also on hand to receive $20,085 towards the wish list at Parkwood Veteran's Institute (Patient celing lifts, lift swings)

We announced the following donations already presented -

  • $5,000 each to the four local Cadet Squadrons for their invaluable assistance with the Poppy Campaign
  • $15,000 disbursed amongst the Provincial Command Poppy Fund (Veterans Service Officer Programme), Provincial Command/LA Bursary Programme, and Provincial Command Homeless Veterans Fund
  • $5,000 to Forest Heights LTC for a mural in their lounge
  • $5,000 to the Royal Ottawa Health Care Group, in support of their ground-breaking research into PTSD

Total "major donations" from the 2016 Campaign were $115,085.00

Donations of this magnitude were only possible due to the generosity of the good people of Kitchener and Waterloo, and we thank you sincerely.
